About C.F. Button...

C F Button in his rock'n chair.
A 28-year veteran of the Sagebrush Rebellion, Clair Button retired from the Bureau of Land Management where he had worked as a wildlife biologist in Colorado and a botanist in Arizona and Oregon. His writing bears witness to the political, social, and environmental changes of the western states from the perspective of a field biologist dodging the crossfire of competing public interests and agency imperatives while doing a job he loved. He lives in eastern Oregon and plans to spend more time exploring western landscapes, writing, and collecting rocks.

"After 28 years working in the field of biology, I felt obliged to write to preserve my own sanity. In part, it gave me an opportunity to share the humor, cynicism, and creative spirit of the people around me. In a time when conflict and change threaten to drive us mad, it is a great pleasure to escape into the remaining back-country where you might not see another human being for days. It helps to step back and view life with the humor and humility we need for balance. I promise you these stories offer a moment of escape and pure stress relief.

"This series pokes a bit of fun at the BLM, modern society, and just about everybody. At the same time, my goal is to give you action and mystery, not just set in a western landscape, but with the environment right at the core of the mystery."
